Mr. Duong Quoc Xuan, Chairman of Provincial People's Committee introduced general socio-economic development situation and foreign invested attraction issue in Long An province to Japanese enterprises in which he has stressed advantages of development projects in such afforestation and forest exploitation. For the last 20 years, Long An province was approved by the Government for choosing afforestation project to be implemented under the sponsorship and cooperation of the Organization for Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Up to date, Long An province has over 60,000 hectares of Melaleuca forest; most of trees are in the process of exploitation period. This is one of major advantages of raw materials for Plywood Manufacturing Plant of Sumitomo Corporation. Plywood Manufacturing Plant will have a capacity of 250,000 cubic meters of plywood per year with total investment of $ 250 million and using 20 hectares of land in Phu An Thanh Industrial Zone in Ben Luc district and it is considered as the largest project in plywood processing and manufacturing plant in the region of Cuu Long Delta.

This project will use materials such as Melaleuca, Eucalyptus which are abundant sources in raw materials of Long An province. In the sense of social issue, the plant will use over 200 employees and a number of Vietnamese labors as well as Japanese experts in plywood processing factory automation technology since the project put into operation. After five years of operation, this project will transfer 100% of executive of technical engineers and workers team for Vietnam.

Mr. Duong Quoc Xuan said this is a huge project in the area of forestry, Long An province is willing to create favorable conditions to the project for sooner completed and put into operation, contributing to solving the output for raw material of Melaleuca resource which is facing with difficult consumption today.
